What's Hot?: Vintage Carhartt
The best vintage Carhartt right now!
When workwear is so sturdy it becomes fashionable you have Carhartt. Here’s which vintage Carhartt items are hot right now (and will probably remain so for the foreseeable future)
Carhartt’s roots are over a century old. In Michigan, 1889, founder Hamilton Carhartt had only one goal in mind; to create heavy duty, practical clothes for manual labourers. Carhartt’s focus was on outerwear, such as coats, jackets, boiler suits and thick workwear pants and jeans.
The original Carhartt logos was very different to todays. They depicted a railway carriage and had a focus on overalls and workwear built into the logos design. The modern logo has become a recognisable symbol worldwide and lends itself much more easily to fashionable clothing and outfits.
Whilst ‘farmwear’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as ‘streetwear’, the highly durable nature of Carhartt, who’s products are often water, flame and abrasion resistant, has moulded the brand into a fan favourite amongst both seasoned farmers and kick flipping skaters.
Like many of today’s biggest fashion brands, the adoption of workwear by emerging hip-hop artists in the late 80s and early 90s brought Carhartt to the forefront of mainstream fashion. Inspired by this, Salomee and Edwin Faeh (two designers from Switzerland) approached Carhartt for a licensing deal to create Work In Progress (a.k.a WIP), a streetwear focussed line of clothing that would capitalise on the legacy of Carhartt.
With a history of durable design as rich as Carhartt’s, it’s no surprise that vintage Carhartt is massively popular. These are the vintage Carhartt items whose popularity is as durable as their design.
Vintage Carhartt Jackets
Vintage Carhartt jackets come in many shapes, sizes, and colours, but certain features can be found across the best of them. The heavy-duty cotton canvas immediately sets it out from the rest. Often these jackets are quilt lined.
Vintage Carhartt Trousers - Double Knee
Vintage Carhartt double knees are at the top of the tree when it comes to vintage Carhartt trousers. Initially they were designed for workers who have to spend a lot of time on their knees. In modern times, one group in particular took note of this as they looked at their grazed knees. Skaters were quick to adopt the vintage Carhartt double knee considering their wardrobes were full of kneeless jeans and trousers after one too many failed skate tricks.
Vintage Carhartt Dungarees
Vintage Carhartt dungarees bring all the benefits of a typical set of dungarees together with the trademark Carhartt quality build. The bib on the front is perfect for storing your tools at the workplace or party supplies at the rave.
